Kindred K-12 Privacy Policy

Effective Date: August 4, 2025

1. Introduction

Kindred K-12 ("Kindred," "we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting the privacy and security of information entrusted to us. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard personal information when educators use the Kindred K-12 platform (the "Service"). By accessing or using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Policy.

2. Eligibility

The Service is intended solely for educators and school personnel who are at least eighteen (18) years of age. We do not permit minors to create accounts or use the Service directly.

3. Information We Collect

(a) Account Information When you sign up through Google OAuth, we receive your name and email address. If your institution elects to provide role-based access, we may also receive your professional role (for example, teacher or curriculum director).

(b) Classroom Content We collect any lesson materials, comments, questions, artificial-intelligence responses, and feedback that you choose to create, upload, or store within the Service.

(c) Usage and Technical Data When you interact with the Service, we automatically log information such as internet protocol (IP) address, browser and device characteristics, and the date and time of each request to improve our service. Cookies or similar technologies are used solely to maintain your session and remember site preferences.

We do not intentionally collect sensitive student identifiers. Any personally identifiable student information that you elect to include in free-text fields will be stored in the same manner as other classroom content.

4. How We Use Information

We use the information described above to operate, maintain, and improve the Service; to personalise your experience; to secure the platform and prevent misuse; to communicate with you about your account, including important updates and, where you have opted in, product news; and to comply with applicable laws and regulations.

5. Disclosure of Information

We do not sell or rent personal information. We disclose information only:

  • to service providers that perform services on our behalf and under written confidentiality obligations (such providers currently include Amazon Web Services for hosting and storage; Google for authentication and Drive integrations; PostHog for product analytics; Sentry for error monitoring; and OpenAI and Anthropic for language-model functionality);
  • to comply with a legal obligation, court order, or lawful request of governmental authorities;
  • to protect the rights, property, or safety of Kindred, our users, or others; or
  • in connection with a business restructuring such as a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case we will notify you before your information is governed by a different privacy policy.

6. Data Retention

We retain personal information for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this Policy, unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law. When information is no longer needed, we will delete or de-identify it in a commercially reasonable manner.

7. Security

We employ industry-standard administrative, technical, and physical safeguards, including encryption in transit and at rest, to protect personal information against unauthorised access, alteration, or disclosure. Although no internet service can guarantee absolute security, we continuously review and enhance our practices to address emerging threats and vulnerabilities.

8. Your Choices

You may update your account information at any time through the profile settings within the Service. You may opt out of non-essential product update emails by following the instructions included in each message. Most browsers allow you to control cookies; however, disabling cookies may affect core functionality.

9. California Privacy Notice

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) may grant you rights to request access to and deletion of certain personal information. Because we do not sell personal information, the right to opt out of sale does not apply. To exercise your CCPA rights, please contact us using the details in Section 13.

10. International Data Transfers

We store and process all data in the United States. By using the Service from outside the United States, you consent to the transfer of your information to the United States for the purposes described in this Policy.

11. Third-Party Links

The Service may contain links to third-party websites or resources. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those third parties, and you should review their privacy statements before providing any information.

12. Google API Limited-Use Requirements

Our use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited-Use requirements.

13. Changes to This Policy

We may revise this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Effective Date." Continued use of the Service after such changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
